Trudy's Legacy

Your Donation Will Extend Their Lives

"Trudy's Legacy--Fund For Blind Horses and Those with Eye Trauma" is dedicated to those horses at Save The Horses who are blind or have eye injuries or eye diseases. Your tax deductible donation will ensure the care for these special needs animals and give us the ability to provide for their treatment, medications and often their surgery. It will give them a chance to heal and live a normal life.

Treating Eye Conditions Is Costly

Not many years ago there were plenty of vets and horse owners that immediately thought a horse should be put down if it lost it's sight. Today it's not at all uncommon for these extraordinary horses to be involved in hunter-jumper and western shows, dressage, trail riding and mounted archery. They can become therapy horses and perfect companions. There's not much a blind horse can not do! But they do need special care and patient owners to guide them. Many eye injuries and diseases such as Uveitis and Corneal Ulcers can blind a horse very quickly not to mention are extremely painful. Treating these conditions is costly! We need your donations to aid and protect these deserving animals!

Rest In Peace, Trudy

Trudy, the icon of Save The Horses, passed away on March 7, 2018. She came to our rescue in 1996 and for many years lived in the geldings pasture enjoying a free life. When she developed Squamous cell cancer in her left eye it had to be removed leaving her partially blind. She then developed tumors in her right eye which pushed her pupil down--leaving her totally blind. Soon after this, Trudy was stall bound and became completely dependent on humans. She was taken for walks during the day by special, dedicated volunteers but understood the safety of her stall. She lived her days filled with visitors and love, apples and peppermints. Trudy was undoubtedly a healer--a creature that used her pain to help others. More people than we will ever know gave their secrets and their sadness to her. Trudy drew people out of depression and hopelessness. She deserves our thanks--this fund is a way to give back to her.

Trudy--your life had meaning and a purpose! We at Save The Horses will honor your memory forever and we will never forget what you did for us.
